without gender we’d all be human. as it stands right now men are humans and women are women.
The fact that the majority of the world see this as true is what’s wrong with the world. This needs to change. And that doesn’t just go for sexism. But for racism, religious prejudice, and speciesism.
If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I bet they’d live a lot differently. When you look into infinity, you realize there are more important things than what people do all day.
Calvin and Hobbes
(I thought of this when M, his roommates, and I pulled into their driveway and got out of the car the other night. Someone said, “Look at the stars,” and we stopped what we were doing and looked at the stars for a couple minutes.
Living sandwiched between two major cities and in the middle of ongoing suburbia while I lived in Texas, I am endlessly grateful for the amount of stars I can now see in the sky without having to leave my driveway. I catch myself beginning to take it for granted now and then now that I’ve been back in Maine for a while now, but I don’t think my appreciation will fully ever go away.)
